Dawn reported that five Chinese nationals were tragically killed in a suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan. The attack happened when a suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers travelling from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assailant rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy, killing the Chinese nationals and the Pakistani driver.

The Chinese workers who died in the tragic suicide attack were working on Dasu Hydropower Project, a large hydroelectric gravity dam capable of producing 4,320 MW of electricity.

This is not the first incident in the area. Dasu has previously experienced attacks, including a bus explosion in 2021 that claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including nine Chinese nationals.

Such incident showed the vulnerability of foreign workers as well as the risks associated with infrastructure projects in security-risky areas. The recurrence of such attacks highlights ongoing security concerns and the importance of increased vigilance and security measures to protect both local and foreign personnel working in these areas.
