In Dhakki area Dere Ismail Khan, a tragic incident of honor killing occurred where two brothers, Shakeel and Aqeel, murdered their sister, Shaheen Bibi.
A police spokesperson told Dawn News that soon after the tragic incident, speculation about Shaheen Bibi’s sudden death prompted the local Paharpur police station to begin an investigation into the horrific act of honor killing. Police soon revealed that Shaheen Bibi was divorced by her husband, Javed Baloch, on February 18th due to a domestic dispute.
Police said that on February 20, 2024, at 1 p.m., her brothers, Shakeel and Aqeel, committed the heinous act while Shaheen was in her father’s room. The accused brothers entered the room, opened fire on their sister, and killed her. Further investigation revealed that, in order to cover up their crime, the brothers and their father buried Shaheen Bibi in the morning, pretending her death to be natural.

Police said the motive for the killing is unknown, but media reports claimed the brothers shot her for honour. In such cases, individuals, usually women, are targeted and murdered by family members because their actions or behaviours are perceived as dishonouring so-called family honour. These actions could include refusing an arranged marriage, seeking a divorce, or even engaging in relationships deemed unacceptable by harsh outdated norms.
