A story of love, a precursor to the horrific act of honor killing in Kolai-Palas

In the far-flung mountainous region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, gender discrimination, stereotypes, patriarchal society’s so-called norms, traditions, and outdated notions of honor are so harsh that freedom to love becomes a death sentence.

In the conservative landscape of Kolai-Palas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a horrible act of violence occurred. A young woman and a man in his early twenties became the latest victims of an honor killings. The woman’s father, backed by his two sons, committed the horrific act by locking the victims in a room and and end their lives with fatal gunshots in the name of honour.

Honor killings horrific incidents like this one, not new to the region, have sparked debates and discussions on the prevalence of honor killings and the deep-rooted societal outdated norms that fuel them.

Recently, in the same Kohistan region, a terrible incident occurred when an innocent 17-year-old girl was killed in the name of honour after her edited photo with a boy went viral on social media.
